This month was marked by an important event- the 100th anniversary of votes for (some) women. For our March meeting, we are excited to be joined by suffrage author Elizabeth Crawford. Elizabeth has written several books on the women’s suffrage movement and has spoken on related radio programmes.
The topic of Elizabeth’s talk will be ‘Votes for Women: a brief history’ – an illustrated talk covering the women’s suffrage movement from 1866 to 1928. This will also include a special mention of the suffrage movement in Peckham specifically.
We will also be joined briefly by a representative from Link Age Southwark to speak about their work and campaigns, which we think links well with the National Federation of Women’s Institute’s (NFWI) resolution to alleviate loneliness.
100 Banners project / March4Women
Some of us from Peckham and Nunhead WIs have been working together to make banners as part of a project to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People’s Act. We‘ll be marching with our banners at the Care International March4Women this Sunday.
If anyone would like to join us, we’re meeting at 12 noon outside the Conrad London St. James hotel. From there, we’ll make our way to our marching position at the front. For numbers purposes, you’ll need to register with Care International in advance.
